DC Lighting and other electronics

What I like about LED lighting (especially compared to Compact Fluorescent bulbs):

  1. Instant full brightness: They turn on immediately and don’t need to ‘warm up’ to fill brightness
  2. Efficient: Half the power consumption for the same brightness (i.e. 5W LED = 60W incandescent)
  3. Robust: No fragile/breakable glass components
  4. Safe: No toxic mercury etc released if you drop one
  5. Long life: They last 2-10 times life (several years)
  6. They are happy to be turned on and off as often as you like.
  7. Cool: Not very much heat is generated.
  8. Tolerant: They tolerate quite a wide range of voltages without noticeable flickering.

In addition, in my experience so far they tolerate variable voltages quite well and certainly better than fluorescent tubes or compact fluorescent bulbs. LED lights are by nature DC components, but you can buy ‘bulbs’ now that have AC-DC adaptors for the lights built in to them.

Accessories

Apple iPad 2 Smart cover

2000

Beige/Tan-coloured leather cover for iPad 2 screen. Attaches magnetically and automatically sleeps the iPad when you close it and wakes when you open it.
Apple iPad 2 screen protector

1500

Screen protector film to stop the iPad getting scratched.
Authentic UK power cables: Kettle / Cloverleaf

1100

Fused plugs and high quality leads for reliably connecting equipment without needing US/UK power adaptors — I have some Kettle-connector, some Cloverleaf (3-pin used on some laptop adaptors).

Low-power LED Lighting (220V AC)

LED Night-light

1930

Simply plugs into a socket and displays a fairly dim orange light useful for 1 of 2 things: seeing clearly when the power is on, and for reassuring children who are scared of the dark. Uses very little power.
Auto-sensing LED night light

3850

Nicely-shaped nightlight plugs into wall socket and turns on with a gentle white light automatically when it gets dark, and then turns off again when it’s bright enough. Very low power consumption. Good for hallways etc at night.
Auto-sensing LED night light

3300

Similar to above but a little larger, cheaper and not quite as bright.

B22 Bayonet fitting bulbs

5W, like 60W filament

3030

Replace a compact flourescent (energy-saving) bulb and get the same brightness for half the power consumption, immediate full brightness, and a bulb with no toxic mercury which can survive being dropped!
9W, warm white, like 90W filament

1650

12W, cool white, like 120W filament

3300

E14 small screw fitting bulbs & other sizes

8W = 80W incand, cool white

1930

Replace a compact flourescent (energy-saving) bulb and get the same brightness for half the power consumption, immediate full brightness, and a bulb with no toxic mercury which can survive being dropped! ————————————————————E14 is a small screw fitting for candelabras, E12 is even smaller. (I have adaptors for these). GU10 is a fitting common in down lighters, and I have GU10 connectors. I also have a nice light fixture with space for 3x GU10 lights.
spotlight, downlighter, 3W

830

LED candle bulb E12 fitting, like 60W incand

1510

GU10 fitting 12W downlighters/spotlights = 90W filament bulb

1650

Various other spotlights and ceiling-mounted lights that work from either 24V DC or 100-265V AC, 9W, 12W, 15W 2500-3500 These fit directly into a hole in the ceiling and run from a great range of AC voltages or 24V DC.
Bright infrared motion-detecting security light 10W

4130

A security light which can run from 100-240Vac. You can adjust the time it comes on, how dark it needs to be to activate, and how sensitive to movement it is.

12V DC Lighting

Generally LED W = 10x filament/incandescent W
Recessed light fixture: fixed

550

Fitting for putting the LED light of your choice into the ceiling. You drill a hole into the ceiling and then springs clamp the fitting tight against the ceiling.
Recessed light fixture: movable

830

As above, but tilts a little from side to side so you can angle a spotlight.
MR16 connector

140

You need these connectors to plug the LED lights into. Normally these are above the ceiling if using recessed fittings
MR16 spotlight (60led warm, 4W)

1380

Diffuse spread ≈ 40-50W incandescent
MR16 COB 120°, day white 5W

2480

Bright daylight, 120° spread, ≈ 60-75W incandescent
MR16 COB 140°, day white 6W

1930

Bright daylight, 140° spread, ≈ 60-75W incandescent
MR16 spotlight (9W: 3×3, warm)

1650

MR16 spotlight (6W/4W/3W, warm white, cool white)

1100

MR16 4W multicolour with remote control

2200

MR16 downlighter whole unit 9,12,15W
